Trends in Home Decorating: Spring Fling Edition

It's almost springtime, with our 8th annual Spring Fling just around the corner! Here are some of the trends for 2017 that you might be seeing from our dealers - cheery colors, mixed patterns and happy motifs - plus a few unexpected twists

Green With Envy
Named the 2017 Pantone Color Of The Year, Greenery is meant to represent refreshment and revitalization. Dark shades of green will become the new must-have dark interior color as we say goodbye to navy and midnight blues. You can also incorporate this color into your home through cute succulent plants, and other plant accents.

Butterflies
A symbol of both grace and optimism, the butterfly is no longer just for kids rooms (or a staple of the 90’s) but now being celebrated as a sophisticated decorating accent.

Mixed Patterns & Textures

We also saw this in 2016 and it continues into 2017! Mix different patterns and textures by pairing a velvet floral with a burlap pattern.

Cork is Back

You heard it here first – cork is making a comeback. Not only is cork a stylish material idea that adds warmth and texture to spaces, it’s also ideal for absorbing noise in our increasingly large, open plan homes.

Marble Madness
If all things marble are the key to your design-loving heart, but the downfall of your bank account, try marble wallpaper, which has seen an explosive 303 percent increase in interest on Pinterest. Splurge on a large marble piece, like a coffee table, or collect marble accent pieces to place around your home.

All of these ideas can be found at the Queen Of Hearts – just have one of our amazing staff members helps you bring it to life! And join us March 23-26 for our Spring Fling Garden Party to see more trends!

He has been married for 24 years to Caroline, has 5 children, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and currently lives in Atlanta.

Terry recently led a workshop in Buford in December on making wreaths, garlands and floral arrangements from greenery you can find in your backyard.  If you missed it, you missed a real treat.  Terry will be doing another workshop for us in March during our Spring Fling and you will want to mark your calendars for Sunday, March 22, from 2 to 4 pm to see what his wonderful demo in using greenery from nature to make beautiful arrangements!  You will not want to miss what he has to show.

He has a wealth of knowledge and experience and loves to share his techniques with everyone, which is unusual for a dealer in the trade.  What a treasure we have in our Buford store in Terry Ledwell, Dealer VINE.  Be sure to stop in and see him on Sunday, March 22, in our Buford store from 2 to 4!

Budding Inspiration: Spring at the Queen! Guest Post from Appalachian Vintiques

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “The earth laughs in flowers.” After a very long, hard winter in the mountains of North Carolina, I am embracing spring with lots of laughter and looking to flowers for inspiration in decorating my home. With our recent Spring Fling, we saw many unique ways to incorporate pops of pastels, floral prints, colors inspired by nature and ways to bring sunshine and laughter into your home. And don't forget the Pantone color of the year, Radiant orchid, is a bright burst of Spring color for your home, and goes great with floral prints.

The Spring brings opportunities for entertaining - look for creative ways to display flowers. Take these ideas from the Queen, using vases, mason jars, teacups, or vintage bud vases for traditional and non-traditional floral displays.

Vintage bottles would be perfect for displaying, with or without flowers. The fact that these bottles tell their own unique story make them a unique conversation starter. The two pictures below are bottles from our booth in Buford at Appalachian Vintiques.
Love old Mason Jars? You can find a great selection of Ball Mason jars that are clear or you can opt for the older blue jars that are quite valuable.
Spring entertaining (especailly in the South) isn't complete without an afternoon glass of tea. Our dealers have a large variety of tea sets to fit just about any taste or style. This floral display would be perfect for décor but can pull double duty because you can actually use the tea sets later in the afternoon!
The great thing about Spring is that there is a flower for every personality and style. Be sure to stop in at the Queen of Hearts and find the perfect piece to display your flowers, or  your Spring floral accents!
